About ASHRAE Vietnam

ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers) officially established its presence in Vietnam after a long and promising journey. In 2018, after meeting with a key member of ASHRAE Region 13 by chance, the idea of forming an ASHRAE community in Vietnam was initiated. With the rapid growth of the economy and population, the demand for standards and advanced technologies in the RHVAC (Refrigeration, Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) sector increased, particularly the need for networking and learning opportunities for the Vietnamese RHVAC engineering community to connect with the global industry.

On November 23, 2019, the leadership of ASHRAE Region 13 officially visited Vietnam, assisting in the formation of the ASHRAE Vietnam Section, with more than 30 members registered with ASHRAE at that time.

By February 2020, at the annual meeting in Orlando, Florida, ASHRAE officially approved the establishment of the ASHRAE Vietnam Section. However, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, global economic fluctuations that followed, and changes in the Vietnamese market, the official activities of ASHRAE in Vietnam were delayed.

In 2023, ASHRAE Region 13 returned to Vietnam to continue its plan to support the ASHRAE community in Vietnam. By 2024, ASHRAE Vietnam initiated its first official activities, marking a significant milestone with the invitation of renowned speaker Wei Sun, one of the principal authors of ASHRAE’s book on Clean Room, to present on cleanroom topics at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Hanoi University of Science and Technology.

Objectives of ASHRAE Vietnam:

• To connect the local RHVAC engineering community with international experts in the fields of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.
• To organize workshops and specialized courses on global RHVAC standards.
• To support the implementation of ASHRAE standards in civil and industrial projects, enhancing the quality of living and working environments.
• To contribute to the development of the RHVAC sector in Vietnam through training, research, knowledge sharing, and networking.

ASHRAE is the leading organization setting standards in the RHVAC industry, continuously introducing and updating technical standards to address the latest global challenges and trends. These standards include significant trends such as decarbonization, data centers, and many other technological solutions. By developing these standards, ASHRAE plays a crucial role in promoting sustainable solutions, reducing environmental impact, and improving the energy efficiency of buildings worldwide.

ASHRAE’s Support for Universities, Students, and Young Engineers
ASHRAE not only supports the professional RHVAC engineering community but also has strong programs dedicated to students, universities, and young engineers to foster the next generation of engineers in the field.

• ASHRAE Scholarship Program: ASHRAE provides scholarships to students in the RHVAC sector and related fields to encourage advanced research and training.
• ASHRAE Student Branches: ASHRAE encourages the establishment of student branches at universities, helping students connect with RHVAC industry experts and develop design and research skills.
• ASHRAE Student Design Competition: ASHRAE’s annual Student Design Competition offers students the opportunity to apply their knowledge to real-world projects, helping them develop skills in designing RHVAC systems for residential and industrial buildings.
• Young Engineers in ASHRAE (YEA): The YEA program, designed for engineers under the age of 35, offers specialized courses and networking opportunities with leading experts in the field. YEA helps young engineers develop leadership, technical, and soft skills needed for a successful career in the RHVAC industry.
